Justice, Parodi (ANM): "Nervousness about the reform? Not from us but in the government. Referendum? Open game, surprises at the polls"

"Frankly, I don't see any news that came out yesterday. The government explained from the beginning that it had made a commitment to its voters on the constitutional reform and never thought of changing the text". With these words , the president of the National Association of Magistrates (ANM), Cesare Parodi , interviewed by Affaritaliani.it , commented on yesterday's words of the Deputy Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto, at the Forum in Masseria, according to whom there would be a 'nervousness and a moment of difficulty especially in certain magistrates, in understanding that there is a Parliament that finally writes the laws, even the constitutional reforms, without asking permission from either the ANM or the Superior Council. The president of the ANM underlines: " A real debate on the constitutional reform in Parliament has not actually taken place, both in terms of timing and content . And this says everything about the government's will. We are talking about a constitutional reform that touches the legal heart of the institutions that took place without a real discussion, I don't say with the ANM, but with the opposition parties. We take note of this".

"And if there is any nervousness - adds Parodi - it concerns the political forces of government . We have our ideas that we are presenting and will present in the democratic context with the most effective methods. Obviously the formal methods with which the reform has been set up are in line with art. 138 of the Constitution, but it touches on fundamental values for citizens and therefore it will be the citizens themselves who will give the final judgment. We are engaged in both social and public demonstrations and we are absolutely not nervous , we defend principles in which we believe. There is probably nervousness among those who thought that the reform would proceed in a linear way with a broad consensus of Italians and instead they are realizing that the game is open. The public debate will continue in the coming months until the institutional referendum, which as Deputy Minister Sisto says could be held in the spring of 2026. I believe that there could be surprises at the ballot boxes . And, I repeat, on our part there is no nervousness that there is perhaps in others and it is reasonable. We will clearly accept the response of the citizens and we have never thought of replacing the government or the Parliament. But as citizens, even before as magistrates - underlines the president of the ANM - we defend our opinions in the competent venues".

As for the possibility of another magistrates' strike against the reform and before the institutional referendum, Parodi is clear: " At this moment we have not spoken about it and the hypothesis is not concretely on the table . Obviously then it will be up to the ANM board to decide. To know what will happen between now and March-April of next year, you would need a crystal ball. It will also depend a lot on the tone of the referendum campaign and whether something will change in the relationships and expressions of thought. We have gone on strike and personally I believe that it is right to communicate our positions to citizens with other tools as we are doing . Ultimately, at the moment the hypothesis of a further strike has not been taken into consideration", concludes the president of the National Association of Magistrates.
